In Summary

The 23 things...well...it was an exploration, a bit like going to an Amusement Park.

Some of it was enjoyable, some very frustrating, but I did learn a few things. It will be an ongoing experience for me in just trying to learn even more about how computers work and how to pull everything I need from them. I am more comfortable now - not quite so afraid I will break it. Now I will comprehend some of those "buzz words" when I hear them.

Because of my being so "Technologically Challenged", this a has been a very time consuming project. I am not sorry that I chose to sign up for it, but I am glad to have it completed. I will definitely go back and revisit some of the sites, Delicious, is one in particular that I want to explore and utilize.

The lifelong learning continues...

Thing # 22

I browsed through these sites...unable to download...may go back later.

Thing # 21

I added Maryland Libraries 2.0 to my bloglines account.

You Tube Fun

Library 2.0

The idea behind this one is to ensure the Library can grow with the ever expanding Web Community. I took a look at all five perspectives. Some interesting thoughts on what's to come.
I cannot help but wonder if there will still be a place for good old-fashioned one on one customer service in the library of the (not too distant) future. I'm not so sure...maybe if I put on my roller skates (yes, dating myself again) and hand deliver DVD's to customers in their cars with my laptop (or something newer?) on top of my tray. I am curious to see...

Pandora

I loved the 2.0 awards list, so much fun stuff. I will keep going back to this one to play and explore. The site I chose to write about is Pandora because I was curious to look at it having actually heard of it before...it remembers your preferences and is kind of like having your own personal DJ.

Playing in the Sandbox

I added my blog to the wiki Sandbox....Yea!!

WIKI WIKI WIKI

Wiki means quick in Hawaiian. Anyone can add or edit content of a Wiki, even if, like me they have no training in or knowledge of html.
I took a look at the Bull Run Library Wiki. It is maintained by one library patron.
It is open to the general public. There are some fun connections from the "Web", for instance, a description of what a "Librarian" should be.
Also looked at "Booklover's Wiki" at Princeton Public Library, their Summer Reading Club raffle included a gift certificate from the original "soup-man" as one of the prizes.

Technorati

Technorati is currently tracking 111.6 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media, as of November 10, 2007. It is the recognized authority on the "World Live Web".
According to Technorati, blogs are powerful because they allow millions of people to easily publish and share ideas.
The new "social community" is within the "World Live Web".

Del.ici.ous - Lucky Thirteen

I registered for this one also {Must say Grotto's pizza is still a form of delicious I will crave more often}. It seems like it would be good as a research tool for teachers, students, anyone who needs to bring their specific information from one computer to another....

ROLLYO

I signed up for Rollyo and created a search roll.

Library Thing

I played with library thing, signed up for an account and created a book list. It was fun reading other people's reviews on the books from my list.

MEEZ!

I enjoyed playing with online generators...Meez was my favorite! I also liked FD toys...will probably go back and use that one to make a calender. The virtual makeover of your home via "Benjamin Moore" was a cool idea.

Thing # 9

I explored "Merlin"....added it to my Bloglines list. It is good to know a site that is run by librarians exists.

Spinning...

Wow! RSS! My head is spinning. "Really Simple Syndication" brings the information to me rather than my having to take the time searching the web for it. I created an account for myself in Bloglines and have subscribed, so far, to 23 blogs including "Unshelved", "It's All Good" and "Shifted Librarian".

Thing # 5

Yesterday, I spent some time after work exploring "Flicker". I enjoyed the time spent playing and learning. I mistakenly registered for Picassa and then learned that it is not capable of downloading from a Linux based system...oops. However, I am anticipating downloading a picture from Flicker into my blog.

The Beginning!

I am calling this a challenge because so much of this is new to me. I have never created a blog or even put (not the correct terminology , I suspect) a picture from my digital camera into my computer. I am looking forward to enjoying the learning experience and ultimately considering this work as play.
